Housing Choice Voucher Program
The Housing Choice Voucher Program is a Federal Housing Program funded by
the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In order to
determine preliminary eligibility an applicant must supply our office with
an application issued by MASSNAHRO which you can download here.
The Housing Choice Voucher Program has a mobility component. A Housing
Choice Voucher issued by the Malden Housing Authority can be used anywhere
in the United States, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Before you are
issued a Housing Choice Voucher you must reach the top of the waiting list
and meet all of the eligibility requirements. If you are
determined to be eligible, you are then issued a voucher and should then
begin your search for an apartment. If you are a landlord and would
like to list an available unit you can complete our form by
clicking here or call
our office. Once you find an apartment and
enter into an agreement with both your landlord and the housing authority,
the amount you and the Malden Housing Authority pay to the landlord will be
determined and written into the lease and contract. After the lease and
contract have been signed and executed, you and the Malden Housing Authority
will each send a share of the rent directly to the landlord.
Families under the Housing Choice Voucher Program are also eligible to
participate in the Family Self Sufficiency Program. This program has been
very successful thus far.
The Malden Housing Authority participates in the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program Centralized Waiting List maintained by The Massachusetts Chapter of NAHRO.
