The Housing Choice Voucher Program is a Federal Housing Program funded by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  In order to determine preliminary eligibility, an applicant must supply our office with an application issued by MASSNAHRO, which you can download here.

The Malden Housing Authority’s Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is located at 89 Pearl Street for Participants.  Applicants must apply through the Tenant Selection Department at 630 Salem Street.

Advertising

Advertising and locating property has never been easier!

The Housing Authority has partnered with www.Gosection8.com, which provides an enhanced program to list rental properties on line.  Listings are available to potential Housing Choice Voucher tenants seeking apartment units, duplexes, single-family homes or townhomes in the private market.  If you have any questions regarding registering, creating or viewing property listings, please contact the GoSection8 toll free help line at 1-866-466-7328.

It is recommended that Landlords add photos to their listing for better advertising and faster lease up!

Mobility

The Housing Choice Voucher Program has a mobility component. A Housing Choice Voucher issued by the Malden Housing Authority can be used anywhere in the United States, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico.  Before you are issued a Housing Choice Voucher you must reach the top of the waiting list and meet all of the eligibility requirements.  If you are determined to be eligible, you are then issued a voucher and should then begin your search for an apartment.  Once you find an apartment and enter into an agreement with both your landlord and the housing authority, the amount you and the Malden Housing Authority pay to the landlord will be determined and written into the lease and contract.  After the lease and contract have been signed and executed, you and the Malden Housing Authority will each send a share of the rent directly to the landlord.

Self-Sufficiency

Families under the Housing Choice Voucher Program are also eligible to participate in the Family Self-Sufficiency Program.  The goal of this program is to assist families in becoming independent of public assistance programs.  This program has been very successful thus far.

Waiting List

The Malden Housing Authority participates in the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program Centralized Waiting List maintained by The Massachusetts Chapter of NAHRO.
